In the summer of 2013 a team from Captivate went to Kenya in the areas of Kibera slum (Africa’s second largest slum) and the rural area of Muhuru Bay, Kenya (most South-Western corner near Victoria Bay).
On these trips we discovered some of the most impoverished areas on the planet. This experience ignited within our church a calling to create the Captivate Global Initiative. CGI was founded with an initial investment from our church body of over $55,000.
We used these initial investments to:
- Establish a school for children complete with a lunch program to provide a healthy meal to many who would normally go without
- Build a solar-powered water well complete with an electronic pump to provide water to thousands of people who were getting ill from drinking water contaminated by animal waste and other diseases
- Sponsor a local youth soccer team in Muhuru Bay, Kenya which is the site of our school and water tower
- Build an addition to a church facility in Kibera Slum, Nairobi
We are presently expanding our NGO to include work among those affected with HIV/AIDS in the Muhuru Bay region. Future projects in Kibera will include the purchase of deeded land for an orphanage and church complex as many of our friends in this region are being displaced due to a government project to clear the land.
Please pray for us and consider how God may call you to join us in our missions efforts through the Captivate Global Initative. Our school costs us approximately $30 per student to opperate each month. You may wish to set up a recurring gift in this amount to symbollically ‘sponsor’ one of our school children in Muhuru Bay, Kenya.
